Hillsborought School Board wants better PR

The Hillsborough School Board is tired of getting bad press. It's time for a PR blitz.

Chairwoman Jennifer Faliero shared today plans to build an e-mail listserv, where parents can sign up to receive e-mails directly from the district on everything from transportation updates to the role of the School Board.

She said automated phone calls are in. Letters sent home are out. And stay tuned for exciting new programming for television about the positive things going on in Hillsborough schools.

"I'm tired of hearing what a bad job we're doing," she said. "We do a great job, and people need to have more access to what we're doing."

I am a bit surprised "they" haven't tried to silence the freedom of the press, yet. Or just stop televising their Board wars.

You know what? Some things in Hillsborough Schools ARE great. I'm sure if you polled 100 people, a decent amount of them would report having a great experience with the school system.

Does that mean we should white wash over our problems? No! I want to see the Board WELCOME criticism - it provides an opportunity for improvement. Instead, they try to suppress any negative news about the school.

The only way to continually improve the services provided to ALL students is to have transparency and accountability. Right now, I feel we have neither.

I agree with anon 8:08.

I have written and spoke to the fact that a lot of good work by a lot of good people is undone by a few.

Cancer kills a healthy body. Maybe the District needs to attend to some of their cancer spots.
